Is the Rhode Island real estate license exam hard?

We are asked this question often and the answer is always yes and no.  Like any exam, if you do not study even an easy exam can be hard.
The good news about the Rhode Island real estate exam is every candidate is required to complete a 45-hour pre-licensing class to prepare the candidate to pass the exam and more importantly help the student understand the content.  Secondly, unlike other professional exams, you can take the real estate exam as many times as needed until you pass, the only downside is you will have to pay the $70.00 examination fee each time and you must pass and submit your application for licensure within one year of taking the exam the first time or you may be subject to taking the 45-hour pre-license class over. Last but not least and we would argue the best and most important thing to always remember is that what you learn to pass the exam doesn't have much to do with the real world of real estate in terms of being successful.  How well or poorly you perform in passing the exam is no indication of how well can do in the real world.  A successful real estate business requires a great work ethic and willingness to learn best principles and practices for building a successful real estate business.

Why becoming a real estate agent can offer something a J.O.B. never can?

One of the great things about being a real estate agent is the control both in terms of time and money.  Unlike a JOB where you are told what to do, when to do it and what you are worth, a career in real estate provides you the opportunity to define all these things on your terms.

Welcome to real estate where if you choose full time or part time you are the boss! Make no mistake it is liberating to get rid of the boss but you need to now take full ownership and responsibilty for your livelyhood.  As a real estate agent you are by definition an independent contractor free to make decisions as you see fit, ask any agent and they will tell you the greatest benifit of being a real estate agent is the control and freedom to create a business as big or little as you choose, the possibilities are endless if you are willing to learn and have a strong work ethic.  Once you get a taste for this amazing opportunity it will be difficult going back to a JOB.  To learn more about becoming a Rhode Island real estate agent and or to get started in the real estate pre-licensing classes log into the Real Estate Institute Of Rhode Islands website at www.InstituteRI.com for infomation about real estate licensing requirments, career path options and frequntly asked questions about a career in real estate.

Rhode Island real estate careers

Earning a real estate license in Rhode Island opens the door to many career choices.

Real Estate Institue Of Rhode Island
  • Home sales: This is the number one choice of newly licensed real estate agents. One of the reasons is because of the large volume of sales that take place year after year. In addition helping someone buy or sell a home offers great satisfaction and reward for the agents who help them.
  • Rentals: Becoming a rental agent can be one of the quickest ways to start generating income. Unlike home sales which take more time but granted can offer a larger pay day, rentals can be quick money to help you get started.
  • Commercial sales: Working the commercial market is a different animal compared to residential sales. In the commercial arena, decisions are made from the head not the heart like home sales. Commercial real estate allows you to work with business owners and investors and can lead to high sales volume activity. Unlike residential sales commercial real estate takes much longer to transact and requires more research and time to close.
  • Property management: Working on behalf of property owners to oversee the renting, and maintenance of real estate can offer a steady stream of income providing you amass enough properties and units to manage.
  • Appraisals: This requires more education and oversight to become certified but if you invest the time and effort appraisals are a great source of income and opportunity by becoming contractors for banks and any others needing to determine property value.
These are just a few of the many directions you can take in your career after becoming a licensed Rhode Island real estate professional.  Full or part time positions available throughout Rhode Island,  to get started, visit the Real Estate Institue Of Rhode Island for information about pre licensing classes and other useful information about an exciting career in real estate.
